I was writing an article about blackwork embroidery for Darievna.ru and found this incredible finished work by Pippa Foulds. If you want to find a real art in everyday life this is a great example. It's unimaginable what you can do with a needle and a thread! I got so inspired that after finishing the article I continued my search and got more great links and photos.

When you look at modern blackwork embroidery pieces, it's fascinating how the old needlework tradition transformed through the centuries. Playing with geometric stitches and thread density can create incredible tonal shading comparable to black pencil drawing and lead to completing a true art work worth of displaying in a museum.
"Blackwork developed in the 20th century and is now used to portray realism and form through differing densities of thread and pattern to create tonal shading. Using a counted thread technique with a variety of geometric stitches in one colour, dramatic effects are created which are particularly effective with portraits and architectural themes".

Yesterday I was looking at fantastic work of one more blackwork magician. Unfortunately, I don't know his (or her) name, but I highly recommend to take a look at impressive gallery of finished blackwork works. My favorites are always flowers, so I'm showing here tulips and a rose.
