Usually I'm addicted to big cross-stitch projects that take months and months of work. But it's good to take little brakes and work with simple designs. Simplicity doesn't mean boring or primitive. Many times you need to be a true genius to create a nice small pattern.
When I was young and bold I disagreed completely with that statement and preferred sophisticated and sometimes even exaggerated with difficulty designs. Now I'm a bit wiser, so when I saw this small charming and easy cross-stitch rose pattern, I immediately felt in love with it. Just one color and a tiny piece of linen fabric, 2 hours of free time and a $3 frame from IKEA. Ta-ta-ta-tam! A beautiful rose is ready! Actually, I made a whole bunch of roses of different colors!
My first rose was yellow, then purple, blue and brown, then purple and yellow again. I still plan to stitch 2 more roses: red and purple. Will it be enough? I don't know :)
Original free cross-stitch design was made by Russian designer Xenia Adonieva (Ксения Адоньева). You can find it at Stitch.su on the page "Cross-stitched rose by Xenia Adonieva. Free pattern #213" (registration is required to download).
Pattern size: 31x53 stitches (partially filled). I used linen evenweave fabric 25 and 32 count, various colors of DMC Color Variations thread and Virserum Frame 4x6 by IKEA.
